I was privileged to
travel to the City of Uyo in the year 2014 to attend the burial of the father
of one of my colleagues in the office and I must confess I was greatly impressed
by what I saw of the city back then. It is
no doubt a beautiful city and even currently boast of the the best stadium in
Nigeria at the moment. Please pardon my ‘temptation’
to go back to my former love – football. I go straight to the matter of the
topic of the day now...
The collapse of a
church in the city of Uyo has left Nigeria in a sober mood over this past
weekend. The church was said to be filled to capacity following the
consecration of its pastor as a bishop when the incident happened. The governor
of the state was reportedly present but escaped death by whiskers while lots of
lives were reportedly lost while a number of causalities littered the various
hospitals in the city and beyond. This is
no doubt a tragedy, whichever way one chose to look at and ETERNITY REMINDERS
commiserate with the people of Akwa Ibom State and the entire nation over this
sad incident.

“However, each day we wake up, we should realize that two events often bring the greatest joy to heaven – translation of a soul from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of His dear Son to become a saint and translation (death) of a saint from this earth to heaven.”

“However, each day we wake up, we should realize that two events often bring the greatest joy to heaven – translation of a soul from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of His dear Son to become a saint and translation (death) of a saint from this earth to heaven.”
However, against the
background of one of the articles posted here last month (WHO IS THE NEXT
SAINT TO BE WELCOME HOME? READ IT HERE: https://goo.gl/wBlHrf),
it has become increasingly important to ask ourselves as believers since most
of the people that died were ‘believers’, WAS THERE REALLY JOY IN HEAVEN LAST
SATURDAY? HOW MANY OF THOSE BELIEVERS WERE REALLY WELCOME HOME? Yes, it is a
tragedy but as far as heaven is concerned, WHILE IT IS PAINFUL FOR US ON EARTH, IT
IS GAINFUL FOR HEAVEN IF INDEED all of those who died made it and they are
supposed to because they are saints. After all, Phil. 1:21 says “For to me
to live is Christ, and to die is gain…”. Ps. 116:35 also says "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints." So, I guess we are
not supposed to be mourning on the basis of this scripture even though nobody
pray to die in such painful and gory manner – I don’t understand myself and
that is one of the question I will ask the Lord when I get up there – but death
is death and will come at his appointed time!
The important question
we must ask and keep asking ourselves whenever we hear news of this nature is: WILL THERE BE JOY AND CELEBRATION IN HEAVEN? ARE THEY PARTYING IN
HEAVEN BECAUSE OF SAINTS THAT ARRIVED FROM HERE? THIS SHOULD BE FOOD FOR THOUGHT FOR THE ENTIRE
BODY OF CHRIST! THERE IS HIGH NEED FOR A DAILY AWARENESS OF MATTERS OF ETERNITY.
IT SHOULD NOT BE LEFT FOR MENTION AT PERIOD LIKE THIS ALONE! COMMENTS ARE
WELCOME!
Shalom!
