THE SAINTS OF OLD – PA S.G. ELTON (Part 1)


I have been trying (for over 3 months now) to do a research on the late Pa S.G. Elton, who is widely considered to be the father of Pentecostalism in Nigeria before featuring him on this platform. However, someone circulated this via What Sapp and I am using it as a platform to start a 3 part series on him. Enjoy the write up below. Your feedback and comments will be highly appreciated. LOOKING BACKWARD: In order for us to understand the origin of the prosperity “gospel” and the present reign of mammon in the Church today, we cannot but talk about the man who almost single-handedly established the Pentecostal movement that led to the Pentecostal Churches of Nigeria today. Before then all we had were mostly the “orthodox” Churches with strong controls and hierarchy of the ministers. We did not have the “one-man” Churches of today.

Pa Elton was living a comfortable life in Europe. If he was like our Church leaders of today he would have bought expensive cars and built expensive houses and enjoyed a lavish lifestyle. But he sacrificed all that and came to Nigeria and funded the birth of many Pentecostal Churches in the 80s. What brought him to Nigeria was because he (and some others in Europe and even America) received a vision that God would use Nigeria as a spring board to reach the ends of the earth with the gospel in the last days.


When he arrived Nigeria, he identified Idahosa as the man that God would use for initiating this vision. Pa Elton mentored Idahosa along with other of our Church leaders today. He arranged for Idahosa to go abroad to USA for training. But he warned Idahosa to be careful not to swallow the prosperity gospel which was just beginning to spread in USA.

    How can Elton be regarded as Father of Pentecostalism in Nigeria. Please stop this misinformation. Pentecostalism manifested in Nigeria as far back as 1918. And during the revivals of Apostle Babalola that started in 1929. Even the Apostolic Church who sent him to Nigeria in 1937, was invited to Nigeria in 1931 by the Aladura Movement to have a white outfit. Please get your story right. Elton DID NOT bring Pentecostalism to Nigeria

    I was expecting you to continue to talk about the seeds of the Doctrines of Demons that Benson Idahosa brought from the Western world which eventually corrupted almost everything that God started from the times of Ayo Babalola in Africa ! Deji Okegbile , what are you afraid of ? Remember Jesus the son of God said ; He that denies me before men will i also deny before my father and his holy angels !I must publicly say that , the Evangelical /Pentecostal church has been infiltrated and infact , hijacked by wolves and ravens anoited and sent by Satan ! I have repeatedly told Christians in Nigeria that , the message and the lifestyle of Idahosa of Benin have nothing in common with that of Ayo Babalola ,Obadare, Apostle Simon Peter , Apostle Paul and others ! In the remote past , at the very beginning , i remember that WF Kumuyi have nothing to do with Benson Idahosa of Benin and his likes ! I now remember one of the last messages Apostle Paul gave to the church before they killed him ; He said , Even if me [We] or Angels comes to you with a strange message/ gospel , refuse it !

On three occasions, it was said that Pa Elton pleaded with him to leave the prosperity “gospel”. On the third occasion, it was said that Pa Elton broke down and wept because he foresaw the damage that the prosperity gospel poison would do to the Nigerian Church. As far back as 1983, Pa Elton declared that the prosperity “gospel” will disfigure the vision that God gave for Nigeria and that God was going to raise another group of “Davids” to use for the vision and not the “Sauls”. This and other details are contained in a book published last year that documents the life of Pa Elton.
