WHAT FLIGHT WILL YOU LIKE TO TAKE TO ETERNITY?



I must confess that I was a little bit nervous and anxious on my first flight out of Lagos to Kaduna close to a decade ago. My heart was in my mouth as the aircraft took off from the run way before taxing into the sky.  When I was not actually fasting, I could not take anything – even the freebies offered on the flight until later that night when I got to my hotel. While I had become bolder after that first time out, I have a colleague in the office whose morbid fear of traveling by air has become legendary and who till date will never venture near an aircraft! What is however, common to EVERY PASSENGER on that flight that we are all GOING TO THE SAME DESTINATION.

 
While the above scenario is an earthly flight, the flight to eternity is a totally different kettle of fish altogether. It is a statement of fact that IT IS ONLY PEOPLE who have made the choice to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord are the ones sure of being on board the flight to eternity. (You can learn more here:https://goo.gl/iogvk8) It is even possible for those who desire it to know their time of departure (John 13:1, 2 Tim. 4:6, 2 Peter 1:14). That is however the topic for another day as the objective of this write up is to stimulate our consciousness to the different routes to eternity, so we can from now make our choice of flight to eternity.


The FIRST FLIGHT to eternity and the most common one is by physical death, which is the cessation of life here on earth. An example of this can be found in Luke 16:22 “Lazarus died and was carried to Abraham’s bosom…” As stated above, this particular flight to eternity often come to many SUDDENLY and UNEXPECTED and it is sad to know that most believers are not prepared for it or chose to be negligent in their way of life, thus finding themselves on the other side of eternity – may this not be our portion in Jesus name.  The best way to get ready for eternity is to live ready. In other words, we should be embraced the motto of the Boy scout “ALWAYS BE PREPARED.”


The SECOND FLIGHT to eternity is what I called the “Special delegation flight”. Only three people (Enoch – Gen. 5:24, Heb.11:5,  Elijah – II Kings 2:11 and the Lord Jesus – Acts 1:11) were recorded to have taken this special flight.  I am particularly pleased by the testimony of Enoch, to the extent that I named my second child after him. But the question I have asked myself is “Can we see a man in this generation who will break this record?”  To this question, I wish to say like Ezekiel said in Ezekiel 37:3 “…Lord thou knowest”. I agreed completely with Prophet Ezekiel because we are in a wicked and perverse generation but with God all things are possible! Therefore, I have the faith that God can find you and me worthy to take this “Special delegation” flight to eternity!

THE THIRD FLIGHT to eternity is by Rapture. This can be seen in 1 Thess. 4:16-17. It is clear from this scripture that rapture should not catch any believer unaware.  So every serious minded believer should wake up every day with great excitement that this could happen at any time. Similarly, our desire to witness the glorious day of the rapture should grow stronger daily or something is wrong somewhere. I don’t know about you but for me, this is MY DESIRED FLIGHT TO ETERNITY.  Like Dr. Mike Okonkwo said below "I look towards the rapture with joy and not with fear."


The final FLIGHT to eternity should never be desired by anyone called by the name of the Lord because it is only available after the rapture has taken place. Thereafter there shall be the tribulation period which will make it extremely difficult because EVERYONE shall be required to receive the mark of the anti-Christ (666) in other to buy and sell (Rev.13:16-17). So any believer left behind for any reason  whatsoever after the rapture will have to endure the tribulation period and MUST NOT RECEIVE THE MARK OF THE BEAST but be ready to pay with his/her blood because grace will no longer be available. This can be seen in the book of Revelation 8:13-14.

Apostle Timothy Oluwole Obadare went to be with the Lord on March 21, 2013 at the ripe age of 83.
